Improve agriculture, improve the earth

On Friday, April 22, the world will celebrate the 41^st anniversary of Earth Day. This year, the theme is "A Billion Acts of Green," which represents the "largest environmental service campaign in the world." The objective of the campaign is to register one billion individual and corporate actions toward the goals of reducing carbon emissions and supporting sustainability.

We applaud these efforts and think it's important to show how they relate to the goals of sustainable agriculture. One Earth Day program, The Canopy project, is dedicated to planting one billion trees, which would be a huge step toward offsetting the world's deforestation. But it's not only the way to help. Did you know that by developing seeds that allow farmers to get more from each acre, we can decrease the need for new farmland--the leading cause of deforestation?
