Water for Food: Will There Be Enough?

The third annual Water for Food conference brought some of the world's most prominent agriculture industry leaders, scientists and policy makers to Lincoln, Nebraska to tackle one of our most pressing questions: Will we have enough water to feed the world?

It's a question that desperately needs an answer. With a global population set to hit 9 billion by 2050,   most experts agree the world will require twice as much food as farmers produce today. Which means that unless something changes, they'll need twice as much water.

Debates at the conference were spirited, but speakers and attendees all agreed on one important fact: water is a finite resource. What we have is what we've got, and in order to meet the future demands of agriculture, we're going to have to become drastically more productive. Now is the time to explore multiple solutions for reducing our individual water consumption and the big footprint of agriculture.
